Tottenham Hotspur face Middlesbrough this weekend in the third round of the FA Cup.
The game offers something of an opportunity for manager Jose Mourinho to rotate his squad but Wednesday’s defeat to Southampton in the Premier League showed that there is no guarantee of victory for the north Londoners.
Thus, Spurs should tread carefully when it comes to selecting their XI against the Championship club.
Here, Football FanCast takes a look at the team the Portuguese should select.
Paulo Gazzaniga should play in goal; he remains first-choice with Hugo Lloris out injured and Michel Vorm has not played a minute of senior football this season.
At right-back, Kyle Walker-Peters should replace Serge Aurier. He needs match practice and minutes. This is an ideal opportunity to give him both.
In defence, a pairing of Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth is just experienced enough and ensures that both Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld get something of a rest.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
At left-back, Danny Rose needs to play – using two natural full-backs is better than playing the first Belgium international out of position.
In midfield, Harry Winks has yet to prove himself to manager Mourinho. He has made five appearances under the Portuguese but completed the 90 minutes just once, in his first game, against West Ham United. Bringing him in here would be sensible.
Oliver Skipp is a youngster who was on the fringes of the first-team under Mauricio Pochettino but he has had just 10 minutes of football under Mourinho; partnering him with Winks would be something of an audition.
Further forward, an experienced support network would help young striker Troy Parrott thrive in the absence of the injured Harry Kane.
Deploying Erik Lamela on the right flank will give him some much-needed game time while Christian Eriksen can attempt to pick the lock and provide the bullets for Parrott to fire.
On the left, Son Heung-Min is back from suspension and needs to build up his fitness before Spurs take on Liverpool in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, one Spurs ace was terrible against Southampton.
