Barry Ferguson swas naturally delighted with Rangers 3-1 defeat of Fenerbahce in Istanbul on Thursday evening – but there was no way the Interim Manager was getting carried away with the result, outstanding as it was.

“There’s no way we regard this tie as over – it was a great result for us but it’s only half-time and we’re playing against one of the best teams in Europe. We’ll have a couple of days’ rest – then we’ll get back to work”.
He acknowledged that the decision to change the system was a difficult but necessary one.
“It was a gamble to change the shape of our team – but it was a gamble worth taking and it worked. It’s not easy changing the system. We need to be flexible as a team, depending on the opposition.”
He provided an update on Robin Propper, substituted before thehalf-hour mark.
“I think Robin was knocked out at first but he’s recovered and we’ll see how he is in the next couple of days.”
Questioned again by the Turkish media about youngster Ridvan Yilmaz, he pointedly would commit himself beyond the current season.
“I would like to think Ridvan has a future at Rangers.”
There was also praise for the outstanding Cyriel Dessers.
“Big Cyriel always gives you 100%. I thought tonight he showed he’s a first-class striker. He led the line superbly.”
