Martinelli was replaced by Leandro Trossard on Merseyside, with the Belgian going on to score the only goal of the game. Arteta told afterwards when asked for an update on Martinelli: “He felt something in his hamstring so he will need to be assessed.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
While Arsenal wait on an update there, they were able to take positives from a narrow win over Everton. They caused plenty of problems with short corner routines – with Trossard’s goal coming from one of those – and Arteta said of mixing things up: “Obviously they are very strong in the box so we need alternatives. It's about creating a story in the game and the players have to sense when is the best moment to do it.”
He added to : “We have to keep finding different weapons to win games. We win a lot of corners and we have to maximise that, for sure.”
