We all know that it will be tough to replace Dedryck Boyata now that the Belgian stopper has left Glasgow, seeing as he racked up 135 appearances and won a treble-treble. That will cost a bit of money and with Toulouse demanding £10m for Christopher Jullien, who The Scotsman have linked them with, it will not be straightforward.
It won’t be easy for Celtic to get this one done, as Jullien has come in for a lot of interest from a lot of clubs. Both Celta Vigo and Celtic, as well as ‘other French clubs’ are all interested in his signature, although what a coup it would be if Neil Lennon can get it over the line in the comings weeks.
It’s not the first time that a British side has taken an interest in the six foot five inch centre-half, as it was in August last year that Newcastle, under then manager Rafa Benitez, took a real interest in the defender, via L’Equipe, albeit a deal couldn’t get pushed through last summer.
The stats surrounding Jullien speak for themselves, throughout the 2018/19 season, despite the fact that the 26-year-old’s Toulouse finished 16th, narrowly avoiding the drop, the French colossus averaged a better performance per 90 minutes than Ligue 1 favourites Presnel Kimpempe of PSG and Kamil Glik of Monaco, as per WhoScored.
It’s not hard to see why the WhoScored analysts rated the big man so highly either, as he averaged 5.9 clearances, 1 tackle and 1.2 interceptions throughout the campaign for Toulouse, quite rightly seeing him turn some heads across Europe.
The chances are that the Hoops will be looking to bring in more than a couple of new players to bolster their backline. The Scotsman’s article linking Jullien claims that as Arsenal near the signing of Kieran Tierney the Glasgow club could be set for a massive windfall and will be set to sign both a central defender as well as a new right-back to replace the departing Mikael Lustig.
